Face reading
Chinese Face Reading (Mian Xiang)
Mian Xiang (面相) is the Chinese practice of face reading. It's a millennia-old observational system used for self-knowledge — distinct from the discredited 19th-century Western "physiognomy" used for racial classification. Mian Xiang reads for personality, life phases, and the way you carry yourself in the world.
What Mian Xiang reads
A serious Mian Xiang reading is layered:
- ✦ Face shape — one of seven, sets the elemental temperament
- ✦ Nine key features — eyes, nose, mouth, ears, eyebrows, forehead, chin, cheeks, jaw
- ✦ 100-year zones — different regions of the face map to different decades of your life
- ✦ Five Elements (Wu Xing) — wood, fire, earth, metal, water — the energy balance read across all features

The 100-year zones
In classical Mian Xiang, the face is divided into regions that correspond to decades of life. The forehead governs ages 15–30 (early life and family of origin). The eyebrows mark 31–34 (transition into authority). The eyes — the most-read feature — govern 35–40, the soul's prime. The nose maps 41–50 (wealth and identity). Cheeks at 46–47 (social authority). Mouth and lips through the late middle age. The chin holds 61+, your legacy.
A face changes over a lifetime — softening in some places, sharpening in others. Mian Xiang doesn't fix you to a single reading; it gives you a vocabulary to watch your own evolution.
